Curriculum

The academic programs offered at MHT follow Diocese of Phoenix curriculum guidelines.  Utilizing differentiated, small group, and traditional instructional methods, our teachers are able to present the core curriculum in a manner that produces confident, active, and life-long learners.

 Curriculum includes:

  • Reading

  • Great Books - K though 8

  • Scholastic Reading Counts!

  • Mathematics

  • English

  • Religion - Faith and Life Series

  • Social Studies

  • Science

  • Spelling/Vocabulary Skills

Primary Grades

MHT employs a phonetic approach which ensures strong readers ready to comprehend increasingly difficult text.

Through the Great Books Program students develop skills for participation in the Shared Inquiry Method which enhances and perfects their critical thinking skills and ability to articulate ideas through group discussions.

Upper Grades

To prepare our students for high school, and maximize student learning time, fifth through eighth grade core classes are structured in a traditional, departmental manner. On a weekly average students receive:

  • 240 minutes in English and Math

  • 210 minutes in Reading

  • 200 minutes in Science and Social Studies

Following the diocesan standards, MHT has developed a math program that builds a strong foundation for basic mathematical skills which prepares our students to meet the high expectations required as they progress through school.

Title 1 services are available for math and reading.
